FC Review: Not Your Mothers Dry Shampoo
Remember my struggle with dry shampoo? It made hair not quite clean, not quite dirty, but in some strange no-woman’s land where I had to learn to style my hair all over again. Well I’ve discovered the Holy Grail of dry shampoo, from brand Not Your Mother’s. I started out using the hairspray, which I’ll review at length in the future, after I got a sample of it in a Beauty Army shipment. I liked the brand so when I ran out of my New York Streets Dry Shampoo, I bought a bottle of Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo. At $5.99, this is considerably cheaper than New York Streets which retails for $17.99. I’ve been using this dry shampoo for a couple weeks now, washing my hair every other day and spraying with dry shampoo on the off days. Here’s a shot of me on a no-wash day:
Let’s keep the snarky comments to ourselves, eh? This photo was taken around noon on a weekday, after I’d been working at my desk and around the house in the morning, and had just gotten home from a long walk with my dogs. Note the sloppy, kink-inducing bun, the sweaty, greasy fly-aways around the face, and the general unruliness. After slaying my vanity with this photo, I took a shower, keeping my hair up and away from the water, and when I got out, I dried the wet pieces around my neck and face with a towel. I waited about 15 minutes, let my hair down, sprayed with the dry shampoo, worked it in for about 30 seconds with my fingers, and this is what happened:
Not bad, right? And almost zero effort on my part. The day before I’d spritzed my wet hair with Bumble and bumble Surf Spray and let it air dry while occasionally crunching it to encourage waving. You can see much of that styling still remains the next day, and looks fine after some oil-sopping by the dry shampoo. This is a GREAT product. The price point can’t be beat, it’s a huge bottle, and it works better than any other dry shampoo I’ve used.
