Today we have a quick peak at some NYX Lip Liner Pencils. I ordered these as a group from Amazon–I was perusing the makeup options to see if there were any good deals and these six pencils came in a bunch for about $10. Sold!
From left to right: Orange, Pinky, Dolly Pink, Rose, Coral, Tangerine. I did swatch these on my lips but the photos didn’t turn out well, and here’s why: most of these are true lip liners in that you have to pair them with a lipstick. They’re sheer and meant to be used to outline the lip, not to give it its dominant color. The best color in the bunch, for me (pale skin with freckling, very dark hair, eyes, and eyebrows), was Pinky. Nice bright fuchsia that definitely stands on its own. Also a winner was the Coral, which was actually quite orange, paired with a clear, semi-sparkly gloss (Pink Swan by Too Faced, no longer available) on top. Here’s a swatch:
Looks good with a bolder eye, right? The Dolly Pink and Rose were pretty bad with my skin tone–frosted pink that made me look like Magda from There’s Something About Mary. Also bad for my skin tone was the Orange, but it applied beautifully and I think it would look perfect on women with very dark skin.
This was a good deal to try out some lip liners I had no experience with, but because I ended up with so many colors I probably won’t use, next time I’d just go to Ulta and pick out the colors I know will look good with my skin tone.
