Us girls at The Pretty Guinea Pig are always on the lookout for chemical free, healthy cosmetic alternatives that actually work as well as their non-natural counterparts. Sometimes that can be hard to find, especially when it comes to antiperspirant/deodorant. Regular antiperspirants use aluminum to keep you dry, a heavy metal that can leech into your body. But it’s a very effective ingredient, as any antiperspirant user knows.
I can’t remember exactly how I came across Primal Pit Paste. I’m pretty sure I was surfing Amazon for something and it popped up in the recommended bar. It peaked my interest enough I decided to give it a try. At $12.50 I wasn’t going to put too big a dent in my checking account.
I was excited about a product with fairly good reviews that was lacking in all the bad stuff that goes into regular antiperspirant. I choose the lavender scent, which smells exactly like it’s named. The texture of the paste is a bit grainy due to the baking soda in it, but rubs onto the skin easily. It’s also moisturizing since it contains shea butter and coconut oil.
But did it work?
The first day I used the product I was pleasantly surprised. Granted, it was a pretty low-key day–not much running around and nothing really stressful happening. Could this be the natural product I’d been looking for?
The second day was about the same. I had another quiet day, and Primal Pit Paste seemed to be taming any odor.
But then I got to day three. Back to work, in the office. Lots to do, and stress levels up. Mid day I noticed my pits were wet, took a whiff, and it was then I realized Primal Pit Paste had failed me. I high-tailed it to my desk drawer, pulled out the travel size Dove Clear Tone antiperspirant I keep for emergencies (this was an emergency!), and slathered it on my sweaty, and smelly, pits.
Oh Primal Pit Paste, how I wish you would have been the answers to my natural deodorant prayers. In all fairness, Primal Pit Paste does off a “Strong” version of their product, and I just purchased the normal. Also, I haven’t tried applying more pasted than I did the first time to see if there would be any difference. My gut tells me there wouldn’t be, and until I can be alone for a day to test it again (so as not to force my stank upon others), I’ll have to stick to my regular antiperspirant.
I will keep using the product on quiet days, I like the thought of giving my body a break from the metals and chemicals in regular antiperspirant/deodorant. But unfortunately Primal Paste has made it onto the long list of natural deodorants that just don’t cut it for me.
